About Us

Our History

Founded in 1856, Wayland United Methodist Church has been loved by many, both old and young, throughout the years. At WUMC, we understand the importance of continuing to build, nourish, and sustain a community of believers. Our goal is to continue to grow our community for the generations to come, and to maintain our commitment to strong family values and the Christian life. Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the World.

Our Vision

God is calling us to be a congregation inspired to serve as a beacon for Christ in our community.

Our Mission

To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Our Beliefs

Wayland United Methodist Church affirms the following foundational Christian beliefs.

God: We believe in God, who is one, is revealed in three distinct persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus: We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. God became human in Jesus of Nazareth; and his life, death and resurrection demonstrate God's redeeming love.

The Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is God's present activity in our midst. When we sense God's leading, God's challenge, or God's support or comfort, it's the Holy Spirit at work.

Human Beings: Genesis 1:27 asserts that we've been made in the image of the Creator. Like God we have the capacity to love and care, to communicate, and to create.

The Church: The church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today.

The Bible: We believe that the Bible is the primary authority for our faith and practice.

God’s Reign: The kingdom or reign of God is both a present reality and future hope.

For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.

— Romans 12: 4-5 (NRSV)
